I have a 1998 Mazda Protege LX Touring Edition (4dr) and need to install a rear-facing infant car seat (with base) in the back seat, preferably center position. Because I purchased my Mazda used, I do not have the Owner's Manual. I was told th I had a Mazda MPV 10 years ago and the front seat belts would just suddenly pull out as I pushed against them when accelerating,even though they had clicked properly when I fastened them. This would not always happen, so I couldn't prove it by ta This problem need some serious attention by Mazda. TOO many seat belt problems. This is a major safety issue and needs fixed. Mazda needs to recall this defect in there automobiles. We bought a 2010 Mazda 3 in July of 2011, after the car had been a rental for 1 year. It had less than 25k miles on it. About a month after the warranty from the dealer ran out, two of the four seat mounts broke, causing it to wobble forward and I have a 2006 Mazda 3. We installed a child car seat behind the passenger seat. Now that we have taken the car seat out, the front passenger seat no longer will recline back to its normal position.
