Ford Explorer Sport 2002 Visibility Rear Window Wiper/washerFord Explorer Sport 2002 Visibility Rear Window Wiper/washer Review #10247093 FORD EXPLORER SPORT 2002 car safety problem was reported on Oct 24, 2008.FORD EXPLORER SPORT 2002, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with VISIBILITY:REAR WINDOW WIPER/WASHER . my husband and i own a 2002 ford explorer sport. friday, oct. 24th, 2008 we had traveled out of town about 2 hours away from our home. we were on our way home and we were completely stopped at a red light. all of a sudden we heard a huge boom and the rear liftgate glass shattered. we did have the police come out and inspect the vehicle for any indications as to what may have caused the glass to shatter. they did not find anything that would have caused the problem. when my husband and i got home we did some research online to find out if there was a recall on this type of problem. we did find that in 2001 ford recalled thousands of ford explorers for a similar issue. we contacted ford and were told that our vehicle was not part of that recall. they directed us to nhtsa to file a complaint due to our issue being almost identical to this recall. we feel that this is a manufacturer defect and that our vehicle should have been included in this recall. we have the vehicle in the shop right now and at this time we believe that the glass, hinges, rear windshield wiper mechanism, struts and any other parts affected are being replaced. we have a $500 deductible and our insurance is covering the balance of the cost at this time, which is over $1000. we would like to file a complaint at this time because we do feel that our vehicle exhibited the same malfunctions as the 2001 recall. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 70000 miles. Ford Explorer Sport 2002 WheelsFord Explorer Sport 2002 Wheels Review #10294309 FORD EXPLORER SPORT 2002 car safety problem was reported on Apr 22, 2008.FORD EXPLORER SPORT 2002, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with WHEELS . i purchased a new 2002 explorer sport 4x4, and drove it conservatively under normal conditions; no off-road, never towed, garaged, etc. with the original tires and suspension system, at 27,000 miles, the left front wheel bearing (referred to as a joint in the ford shop manual) and hub assembly (a single, sealed unit) failed so badly the vehicle could not be driven. this was replaced at a ford dealership, but as i was over three years since purchase, the repair was not covered by the warranty, and cost $500.00. after the repair, at 65 mph, a fairly bad vibration was present in the front-end. at 36,000 miles, the right front wheel bearing and hub assembly also completely failed, and required a tow to the ford dealership for replacement. the vibration is gone, so was caused by the right bearing, but not caught by the technician when the left side was replaced. as ford will admit, their parts are now manufactured in china and mexico. premature part failure is rampant, so obviously there is little quality control. additionally, china has a huge counterfeit auto parts problem, and it seems reasonable these parts are being used in new american vehicles. i do have the left front hub assembly, which failed at 27,000 miles. this part failure has the potential to cause serious injury or death. *tr .Mileage was 27000 miles. Ford Explorer Sport 2002 Power Train Automatic TransmissionFord Explorer Sport 2002 Power Train Automatic Transmission Review #10328721 FORD EXPLORER SPORT 2002 car safety problem was reported on May 03, 2010.FORD EXPLORER SPORT 2002, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION . my 2002 explorer sport o/d light began blinking when i bought it in feb 09. the car has about 104,000 miles on it. soon after i bought the car, the transmission slipped. i took it to the mechanic and they could not reproduce the problem. about a year later, 4/29/10, the o/d light began blinking again. i had the transmission serviced and a diagnostic test ran on the transmission. this cost about $300. on 5/3/10 i took my explorer in again because the light came back on. they ran another test and told me i would have to get the transmission replaced or rebuilt but it should last me a little while longer. that same evening my car would not shift into gear. i had to turn the car off and turn it back on to get it into gear. i could not go over 5mph and my rpm's were unnaturally high for the speed i was traveling. by the time i got up the hill i was on i could go no further. my car would not go into any gear. i finally had to park on the side of the road in the middle of the night and walk home. i have read numerous complaints (over 300) on the 2002 ford explorer transmission and their poor performance or lack thereof. a recall would be much appreciated, as this defect in the transmission is due to poor vehicle construction, not typical wear and tear. all my family drives is ford, however after this incident i do not have much faith in ford. given the opportunity, i would rather go with a foreign car next time. *tr.Mileage was 104000 miles. Ford Explorer Sport 2002 Power TrainFord Explorer Sport 2002 Power Train Review #10424133 FORD EXPLORER SPORT 2002 car safety problem was reported on Sept 04, 2011.FORD EXPLORER SPORT 2002, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with POWER TRAIN . i just purchased a used 2002 ford explorer sport on 08/06/2011 so that i had a vehicle that i could take the kids on camping trips. on 09/04/2011 on our way to daytona beach i noticed the car was pushing and swerving in both directions, i had just put brand new tires on it and replaced both the upper control arms and all 4 ball joints and had an alignment done, i thought that it's a bigger vehicle than what i'm used to and had been a slightly windy. on the way home on monday 09/05/2011 it was even worse, i could feel the body rolling the car pushing ect.. i pulled over and checked the front suspension. there appeared to be nothing wrong. i crawled home a nervous wreck. when we unload the car at home i noticed the car was sagging in the left rear.i crawled under the vehicle. i noticed 2 big issues, 1st the coil spring is broken were lucky it didn't pop out and shred a tire, and 2nd all of the body mount bushings are completely crumbling or just plain gone. talk about dangerous. i went online and there seems to be thousands of complaints for the 2002 explorers on blogs and ford forums and tons of sites for complaints for automobiles for all models of this vehicle for the exact same things. i have also seen numerous other complaints on this vehicle for other equipment failures one of them being a whining noise coming from the rearend of the car which i thought was the tires, but apparently it is an improperly engineered differential that ford will not fix or admit that there is a problem with although there are a couple of technical bulletins out on it. they are just lucky that my children were not injured. how dare they not accept any responsibility to take care of these vehicles that they engineered and sold, used or not. if you manufacture an unsafe vehicle and a defective vehicle you should be responsible. is it gonna take a father and his children being killed. *tr.Mileage was 90500 miles. my 95 ford exploere engine surges when turn my air conditioner on Ihave a 1994 ford probe which has started to idle very low and stalls at times. It is a 4 cyl. w/ air and a 5 speed. any ideas? I replaced the fuel filter, air flow meter and added HEAT to gas tank to dry and clean fuel system. I think my pcv valv should a standard transmission truck start when it is in gear without the clucth engaged? should a 2005 standard transmission ford ranger start when in gear without the clutch engaged? 96 Ford F250 Emergency brake lever gets caught on the auto adjustment spring, causing brakes to be permanently engaged, also allowing the parking break lever to rub against the hub, which can cut through over time. try pushing the pedals button closer to you. you must have the pedal adjustment button to the left of the radio, looks like a foot, that brings the pedals more inward towards the driver. hope it helped. or look carefully if a wire has corroded. it i would check ur multi switch on ur stearing colum on the pedal whats the sound Just bought an '06 E-350 van. Left d'ship got on highway and noticed shimmy when I got to 60....same problem???? that happened to me last night! If you rock the car back and for while shifting then it should release the safety lock! why does it take turning off the veh. while pulling in on the shifter arm, them starting it again while still holding it inwards ever so slightly??
