I have a rattle type growling noise when the car is first ...

I have a rattle type growling noise when the car is first started when shifting in reverse and / or drive. When the car is warmed up it seems to be gone unless I put it in drive with the foot on the brake and bring the rpm's to about 1000 or 1100. You also here it when you first take off from a dead stop after being warmed up. What could this be? E-mail is Garryamoore@hotmail.com Thanks
