I purchased a used 2010 Ford Fusion in Oct 2011 from a Ford dealership in Goshen NY with 25,429 miles. It now has a 77,624 miles on it. Yesterday while driving on the highway I attempted to brake and much to my surprise, the car kept moving. I literally had to push my back against the seat using all of my body weight to press down on the brake to make the car slow down. I had my mechanic Bill Leahy in Piermont,NY, who has proven himself to be worthy of the title "Master Mechanic" placed on him by several major car manufacturers, dealerships and other mechanics throughout the entire New York State, look at my car and he diagnosed the problem immediately. The "Brake Power Booster" on this 2 year old vehicle had stopped working. He said that it is very unusual for this part to go bad in a such a short period of time. Out of curiosity, I began to contact several Ford dealerships and auto part supply stores to speak with their service and parts representatives within a 100 mile radius. To my surprise, none of them had ever heard of a brake power booster failing in a 2 year old vehicle, or ever had to order one for a customer. One individual even said that the part must have been faulty from the start. Has anyone had this problem, or do you know anyone else who has had this problem? Also what is the possibility that this part could still be under warranty? I spoke with a representative at the dealership I purchased my vehicle from and was told that it was not. The majority of my traveling is highway drivng. So I do not do a lot of stopping and going. Why would a 2 year old part malfunction so soon?
I would really appreciate any feedback. Thank you.
